2 Important Reasons why morals are important in Islam

morals

”True beauty is not related to what color your hair is or what color your eyes are. True beauty is about who you are as a human being, your principles, and your moral compass.”

Have you ever imagined yourself living in a society without rules  and morals that regulate the personal behaviors and the social relations? Every culture, whether western or eastern, has its own norms  that determine the allowed and prohibited manners, but these manners are locally and socially- conditioned.

In addition, they change according to the circumstances. On the contrary, for us, the Muslims, the Islamic morals are the rules that dominate our life and control it so without these rules, our lives will be messy. These Islamic Morals are not determined randomly, but they are derived from the two main sources of Islam; the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah (the traditions and teachings of the prophet Muhammad Peace Be upon Him). So In this topic, we will mention 2 reasons why morals are important.

1-Morals are connected to faith

morals

Who ponders at the Holy Quran especially the MAKkI SURAS  ( suras revealed in Mecca), will find that they call and encourage people to have good morals and  to purify their souls from anything that can block the way to Allah. Morals are not  minor thing in this religion, but one of its basic foundations and  the practical translation of our correct  beliefs .As, Iman (faith) is not only a feeling hidden in our hearts, but also a clear behavior . If morals are not reflected in our behavior with people, they will ask ;where is the faith then? and what is its value??

Quran connects morals to faith always. As Allah says in Surat Al-Mu’minun (the believers);(1. Successful indeed are the believers.) (2. Those who with their Salah are Khashi’un.) (3. And those who turn away from false speech.)Quran also clears the belief part sometimes and the ethical part another times. Ethics are important because  they are one of the four fundamentals that our religion is based on and also people can see , that is why to judge a person having religion or not is based o their ethics. It is not sufficient to be righteous without performing deeds which dominate person belief.

Abu Dharr and Mu’adh bin Jabal (May Allah be pleased with them) reported that:

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Fear Allah wherever you are, do good deeds after doing bad ones, the former will wipe out the latter, and behave decently towards people”.

[At- Tirmidhi, who categorized it as Hadith Hasan].

2-Having good morals is a way to call people to Allah;

morals a way to Dawah

Dawah is calling people to Allah and telling them about Islam .It has many ways like using emotions, reasons, experiment  and all of the above. The shortest way to win people hearts is good morals as Some people revert to Islam when they find the good morals of Muslims and others form a negative view about Islam because of the bad and terrible manners of Muslim. So, as a Muslim  you call to Islam directly or indirectly and the best way to call to Islam is having good manners.

In Quran Allah talks to prophet Muhammad and informs him that if the he has  bad manners and harsh heart, people would have dispersed from around him .But all of the sweetness of the heart and tongue of prophet Muhammad are from Allah ,The Giver, the One who gives anyone whatever He wants by His favor and permission.

To have good manners , we should never lose our temper in difficult situation ,say bad words that hurt people, We should not talk loudly to anyone and we should not be rude or harsh in our words or body language. On the other hand, a person shall be honest, compassionate ,gentle and soft spoken, helpful, genuine and Be loving and caring.

prophet said;

  1. “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good things or remain silent.” (Saheeh Muslim)
  2. “Do not lose your temper.” *repeated three times as advice (Saheeh Bukhari)
  3. “None of you will have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” (Saheeh Bukhari)
  4. The messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Nothing is heavier on the Scale of Deeds than one’s good manners.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
